Feast of the Birth of St. John the Baptist

Nativity of St. John the Baptist: Christians Celebrate Feast Day of Saint and Prophet on June 24

The feast day is celebrated six months before Christmas Eve to commemorate the saint's birth. The Gospel of Luke states St. John was born approximately six months before Jesus.

Jesus Christ described this herald of His coming as “a burning and shining lamp” (John 5:35) who “among those born of women, no one is greater” (Luke 7:28).

John himself said to the Pharisees, “I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him. The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:29-30)
