Chicago : Michelin names 64 restaurants 2013 Bib Gourmands

Sixty-four Chicago-area restaurants received a Bib Gourmand designation from Michelin — eight more than a year ago — as the venerable restaurant guide prepares to release its 2013 ratings.

The France-based tire manufacturer, which long ago branched into travel guides, revealed today those restaurants that its anonymous inspectors found to be their favorites for good value. (Click here to jump to that list.) The Bib Gourmand designation is given to restaurants where diners can get two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less exclusive of tax and tip.

A majority of restaurants were repeats from 2012. Half of Boka Restaurant Group's places were on the list though Perennial Virant did not make the cut this year. Two of chef Bill Kim's three spots were also designated as Bib Gourmands – Belly Shack and Urban Belly. Brandon Sodikoff's Au Cheval, Gilt Bar and Maude's Liquor Bar also made the list.

Nineteen new restaurants were named Bib Gourmands in 2013 – including Jam, Lao Hunan and Pump Room.

Eleven restaurants lost their Bib Gourmand designation including Arami, Hopleaf and Lula Cafe.
The 2013 Michelin Chicago guide is the third for the restaurant rater, which is scheduled to announce its coveted star ratings next week.
