Europe’s Polluted Cities

Cities in Bulgaria and Poland had the highest levels of air pollution, as measured by concentrations of particulates, in a survey of 386 European Union cities.

Smokestacks last February in Sofia, Bulgaria. A European study found that Bulgaria had the highest levels of two kinds of particulate matter that can lead to health problems from asthma to cancer.
